The role and mission of SmartEngine can be presented in one statement: To collect vessel power data and use it to control your vessel in the most efficient way possible.

Data ranging from the ship’s GPS to fuel rate, even to controllable pitch propeller settings, is collected and sent to a host PC from a variety of sources. This information is recorded for historical analysis and as the performance parameters of an intelligent “vessel cruise control” system – leading to improvements in efficiency and fuel consumption.

SmartEngine displays information in real-time, identifies alarm conditions, monitors the status of a voyage, or simply logs data for later use. The control system automatically manipulates the throttle to maintain target speeds or engine RPM. Keeping speed constant is an important part of an optimum voyage strategy. SmartEngine’s adaptive controller tracks changes in speed due to environmental or load changes, reacting smoothly to hold the desired speed.  For vessels with controllable pitch propellers, SmartEngine provides advanced control technology to identify the best combination of throttle and pitch to reduce fuel rate even further.
